Reforming the Israeli–Arab conflict? Interreligious hospitality in Jaffa and its discontents

This ethnography analyzes three Israeli Reform Jewish rituals as manifestations of interreligious hospitality. The Daniel congregation invites Muslim residents Jaffa to participate in incorporating Arabic and clergy prayers. egalitarian pluralistic symbols narratives promote neighborly relationships. Nevertheless, some participants’ responses reaffirm popular suspicions prejudices, which the ceremony seeks overcome. Interreligious hospitality here is not so much an act theological reconciliation, but a political also directed toward other actors – like right-wing society, grant Orthodox monopoly on Judaism.
